Solar module manufacturer Alpex Solar has inaugurated a 2.2 GW G12R tunnel oxide passivated contact (TOPCon) solar cell manufacturing facility at Kosi Kotwan Industrial Area, in Mathura, Uttar Pradesh.

The company said the new facility marks a significant milestone in its backward integration strategy and will add cell manufacturing capacity to its operations while boosting its ability to serve the domestic solar market.

Monica Sehgal, Wholetime Director at Alpex Solar, said, “The 2.2 GW TOPCon cell facility represents a strategic investment in expanding our manufacturing depth and creating greater value across the solar value chain. Vertical integration will give us greater control over critical inputs, technology, and quality, while improving our ability to respond to evolving market requirements.”

Alpex Solar operates multiple manufacturing facilities across Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. Its integrated portfolio spans solar cells, modules, solar pumps, aluminum frames, and engineering, procurement, and construction solutions. The company manufactures monocrystalline and polycrystalline PV modules, including TOPCon, bifacial, mono-PERC, and half-cut modules.

The company plans to expand its manufacturing operations with five new units across Greater Noida, Kosi Kotwan, and Madhya Pradesh.

In January, Alpex Solar received an order to supply solar modules, valued at ₹2.15 billion (~$25.9 million), from an Indian industrial entity.

In December last year, the company’s board of directors approved a plan to raise ₹1.25 billion (~$13.8 million) by issuing secured, redeemable, unlisted, unrated, and non-convertible debentures (NCDs). Alpex issued 12,500 NCDs, each with a face value of ₹100,000 (~$1,107.83). The NCDs carried a coupon rate of 14.75% per annum, payable monthly.

As of August 2026, India’s total solar cell capacity under the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM) List-II stood at 35,468 MW. In its ninth revision in August, the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy added 3,709 MW of cell capacity to the list.
