Multinational technology company Apple has committed an initial investment of ₹1 billion (~$10.6 million) in Clean Max Enviro Energy Solutions (CleanMax) to develop more than 150 MW of renewable energy capacity in India.

Apple previously partnered with CleanMax on rooftop solar projects to power its offices and retail stores in India with 100% renewable energy.

In 2024, the two companies announced a joint venture to power Apple’s operations in India with renewable energy, as part of its goal to be carbon-neutral across its entire value chain by the end of this decade. As part of the collaboration, CleanMax installed 14.4 MW of rooftop solar power projects across six industrial sites in India.

CleanMax supplies renewable energy to more than 570 companies. Data centers and AI accounted for 42% of its contracted volumes as of the third quarter of FY 2026.

This April, CleanMax announced it would supply wind-solar hybrid energy to Shell India’s assets across Gujarat and Karnataka from its 30 MW of projects.

CleanMax is developing a 16.83 MW hybrid renewable energy project in Gujarat under a group captive model, comprising 6.93 MW of solar and 9.9 MW of wind capacity. This project will supply power to Shell’s LNG terminal at Hazira.

The company is also developing a 13.2 MW hybrid project in Karnataka, comprising 9.9 MW of solar capacity in Jagalur and 3.3 MW of wind capacity in Honawad. This project will supply power to the Shell Technology Center in Bengaluru. Both companies will co-invest in developing these hybrid renewable energy projects.

C&I consumers remain the single largest category of electricity users in India, accounting for nearly 42% of total electricity consumption in recent years. This dominance is most pronounced in open access power-friendly states such as Maharashtra, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and Rajasthan, which host large industrial clusters.

Mercom India hosts C&I Clean Energy Meets across India, designed to encourage businesses to transition to renewable energy, including solar, for their operations and connect energy buyers directly with top-tier solar suppliers. The next event in the series will be held in Jodhpur on May 15, 2026.
