Companion.energy, an energy management software platform provider, has raised €7.8 million (~$9 million) in seed funding.
Realyze Ventures from Germany and Pi Labs from the U.K. led the round along with Asterion Ventures and other existing investors.
Companion.energy’s platform connects energy contracts and operational systems and distributes energy assets into a single optimization system. According to the company, the platform forecasts demand, models market exposure, and automates energy-related decisions in real time.
The company will use the funding to expand its multi-asset, multi-market optimization capabilities and grow its commercial presence across Europe, beginning with Germany and Spain.
Marnix Roes, Investment Manager at Realyze Ventures, said, “We were deeply impressed by the robustness of Companion.energy’s software and its ability to manage highly complex enterprise energy environments across multiple sites and markets. Germany alone represents a massive opportunity as industrial and commercial enterprises increasingly look for ways to optimize flexibility, electrification, and energy exposure operationally rather than manually.”
The company is said to manage more than 2 TWh of annual energy consumption and production across customer portfolios. The company said this represents about €500 million (~$577 million) in annual energy spend and energy revenues, and the platform supports more than 200 MW of distributed energy assets across solar PV, wind, batteries,e-boilers, and EV charging infrastructure.
According to Mercom’s Q1 2026 Funding and M&A Report for Smart Grid, VC funding for Smart Grid companies increased 8% YoY, with $373 million raised in 14 deals in Q1 2026 compared to $346 million in 18 deals in Q1 2025.
In 2024, Elum Energy, a provider of advanced energy management solutions for renewable energy systems, secured $13 Million in Series B funding. This round was led by Energize Capital and existing investors Alter Equity and Cota Capital. This funding will support the company’s plan to expand to the global market, including a U.S. launch.
