India’s solar manufacturing sector is bracing for short-term pressure in the cell supply chain, with the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy’s (MNRE) mandating that projects use solar cells from the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM) from June 2026. Module manufacturers said that companies without ALMM-listed cell capacity are expected to face constraints in securing compliant cells while they wait for new cell manufacturing facilities to come online over the next few months.

The MNRE allowed a limited exemption from the ALMM List II requirement for certain rooftop solar projects. The exemption applies to rooftop solar projects in which 100% of the required solar modules were installed at the project site before June 1, 2026, but could not be commissioned by the distribution company under the net-metering framework before the deadline.

The Central Electricity Authority issued standard implementation timelines for interstate transmission system projects to improve predictability and coordination in transmission development. The timelines were approved by the National Committee on Transmission.

The Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission issued draft regulations to govern the connectivity and general network access for intrastate transmission and distribution systems. The draft Connectivity and General Network Access to the Intra-State Transmission and State Distribution System Regulations, 2026, will come into force on October 1, 2026.

The Kerala State Electricity Regulatory Commission approved Kerala State Electricity Board’s proposal to implement a 250 MW/500 MWh grid-connected battery energy storage system at the 220 kV substation premises at Brahmapuram, using Viability Gap Funding.

The Bihar Electricity Regulatory Commission approved the tariffs discovered through competitive bidding for procuring nearly 275 MW of rooftop solar power from about 250,000 Kutir Jyoti consumers across Bihar. The projects will be implemented by South Bihar Power Distribution Company and North Bihar Power Distribution Company under the Utility-Led Aggregation-cum-Renewable Energy Service Company model.

The Uttar Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission adopted a tariff of ₹2.24 (~$0.024)/kWh for procuring power from a 5 MW grid-connected solar photovoltaic project to be established in Saraisadi village in Uttar Pradesh’s Mau district.

As commercial and industrial companies explore clean energy options to offset rising energy costs and meet their sustainability commitments, on-site rooftop solar solutions have emerged as a viable solution. For large-scale manufacturers, electricity is a critical input that affects production costs, particularly at facilities where refrigeration, bottling lines, packaging equipment, and round-the-clock operations demand substantial power.

The convenience of generating solar power with minimal land requirements makes rooftop solutions an ideal choice for commercial and industrial consumers. The savings on grid costs paired with ease of maintenance have prompted many companies like Punjab-based rice export house TLG Agro Traders to leverage rooftop solar solutions for long-term gains.

The Rajasthan Renewable Energy Corporation invited bids to develop 201 MW of grid-connected solar power projects under the renewable energy service company mode. The projects will be developed to solarize government buildings under a virtual net metering arrangement.

The Military Engineer Services invited bids for the repair and maintenance of a 1 MW solar power project at Bambolim, Goa, for a period of 12 months. The last date to submit bids is July 4, 2026.

Telangana Renewable Energy Development Corporation invited bids to install 46.705 MW of grid-connected rooftop solar systems across 9,937 government schools in the state. The project will be implemented under the capital expenditure model.
