Corporate funding for energy storage companies totaled $8.9 billion across 73 deals in the first half (1H) of 2026, down 2% year-over-year (YoY) from $9.1 billion across 55 deals in 1H 2025, according to Mercom Capital Group’s 1H and Q2 2026 Funding and M&A Report for Energy Storage. Deal activity increased 33% during the period.

India generated approximately 62.8 billion units (BU) of solar power in the second quarter (Q2) of 2026, increasing 45.9% YoY from 43 BU in Q2 2025, according to the Central Electricity Authority. Solar generation rose 20.2% quarter-over-quarter from 52.2 BU in Q1 2026, supported by a record 15.3 GW of installations in Q1 2026, including 12.6 GW of large-scale solar capacity.

The Ministry of Home Affairs said no new solar, wind or hybrid renewable energy project will be permitted within 1 km of India’s international borders, the Line of Control and the Line of Actual Control, which are classified as a ‘sensitive area.’

The Assam Electricity Regulatory Commission directed Assam Power Distribution Company to continue processing all rooftop solar applications in accordance with the applicable regulations, the Assam Solar Generation Promotion Policy, 2025, and relevant program guidelines.

In an interview on the sidelines of the Mercom India Renewables Summit 2026, Juzer M. Vasi, Professor Emeritus, Department of Electrical Engineering, and associated with the National Centre for Photovoltaic Research and Education at IIT Bombay, discussed the shortage of skilled professionals in the renewable energy sector, the need to align academic training more closely with industry requirements, and the importance of introducing more specialized courses tailored to the sector.

India’s installed non-fossil fuel-based electricity generation capacity reached 300.5 GW as of July 31, 2026, crossing 60% of the country’s target of 500 GW by 2030, according to the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy.

The Chhattisgarh State Renewable Energy Development Agency invited bids for the rate contract for approximately 1,000 off-grid solar systems with battery storage across the state. The last date to submit bids is August 20, 2026. Bids will be opened the following day.

Terra Clean, a wholly owned subsidiary of Indian Oil Corporation, invited expressions of interest from commercial & industrial organizations interested in sourcing long-term renewable power under the group captive open access model or other applicable arrangements.

Rooftop solar solutions and products company Fujiyama Power Systems announced the commissioning of its 2 GW power electronics manufacturing facility in Ratlam district of Madhya Pradesh.

Purvah Green Power announced it will acquire a 1.4 GW operating solar portfolio from ReNew Solar Power for an enterprise value of ₹48.59 billion (~$509 million). Purvah is the renewable energy platform of Calcutta Electric Supply Corporation and part of the RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group.

Waaree Smart Meters, a step-down subsidiary of Waaree Energies, acquired a 24.21% equity stake in smart meter manufacturer Eppeltone Engineers for approximately ₹217.8 million (~$2.3 million).
