India added 8.2 GWh of battery energy storage capacity in the first half (1H) of 2026, nearly 84 times the 98.4 MWh installed during the same period last year, according to Mercom India Research’s newly released Q2 and 1H 2026 India’s Energy Storage Landscape Report.
GAIL (India) invited bids to hire a project management consultant to set up a 100 MW ground-mounted solar project integrated with a 22 MWh battery energy storage system in Maharashtra. The bid submission deadline is September 30, 2026. Bids will be opened the following day.
Bihar State Power Generation Company invited bids to develop a 125 MW/500 MWh standalone battery energy storage system at Kajra in Lakhisarai district, Bihar. The project will be developed through tariff-based competitive bidding on a Build-Own-Operate-Transfer basis. BSPGCL will provide the land required for the project. The last day to submit bids is September 23, 2026.
NTPC invited expressions of interest to set up a pilot grid-connected battery energy storage system using sodium-ion battery technology at its existing thermal projects or office buildings. Bids must be submitted by October 15, 2026. Bids will be opened the next day. The battery energy storage system will be installed under two options.
Noida Power Company invited bids to procure 300 MW of round-the-clock power from interstate transmission system-connected renewable energy projects across India. The last date to submit bids is October 1, 2026. Bids will be opened on October 5.
The Solar Energy Corporation of India invited bids to lease approximately 20 acres of agricultural land to set up agrivoltaic projects in Delhi. SECI plans to lease two parcels of approximately 10 acres each within the revenue boundaries of Issapur and Dhansa villages in Najafgarh tehsil, Southwest Delhi. The last date to submit bids is October 7, 2026. Bids will be opened the following day.
The Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation invited bids from consultancy firms for load/demand forecasting, power purchase cost optimization solution, and energy portfolio management services. The last date to submit bids is September 30, 2026. Bids will be opened the following day.
Bharat Petroleum Corporation awarded three compressed biogas projects totaling 14.8 tons per day (TPD) to a Maharashtra-based company. Organic Recycling Systems won CBG projects worth ₹2.6 billion (~$27.35 million) across three states. The projects comprise a 5 TPD project in Mysuru, Karnataka; a 4.8 TPD project in Raipur, Chhattisgarh; and a 5 TPD project in Kozhikode, Kerala.
The Appellate Tribunal for Electricity extended the scheduled commercial operation date for a renewable energy project developer’s 20 MW solar project in Karnataka from November 3, 2019, to May 30, 2020. The Tribunal ruled that the non-availability of Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation’s 220 kV Kudligi substation, including incoming lines and terminal bays, constituted a force majeure event under the power purchase agreement.
The Central Transmission Utility of India’s (CTUIL) sharp reduction in benchmark project costs could ease financial closure compliance for solar, wind, and battery storage project developers seeking connectivity to the interstate transmission system. CTUIL reduced the benchmark project cost for solar by 30% to ₹35 million (~$370,645)/MW from ₹50 million (~$529,493)/MW and for wind by 25% to ₹60 million (~$635,391)/MW from ₹80 million (~$847,188)/MW.
Recent market movements and policy developments in China are likely to affect India’s solar cell manufacturers. As per Shanghai Metals Market, Chinese M10 wafer spot prices rose about 33% to around $0.16/piece as of September 9, 2026, from about $0.12/piece in July. G12 wafer prices increased about 4% to around $0.17/piece from $0.163/piece in August.
France’s installed solar capacity reached 34 GW during the first half of 2026, according to the country’s Statistical Data and Studies Department.
