India’s floating solar market is gaining momentum, with the project pipeline now exceeding 1 GW and cumulative commissioned capacity also approaching the same level, according to data from the Mercom India Renewable Energy Project Tracker dashboard.
The Ministry of Heavy Industries (MHI) brought electric ambulances (e-ambulances) under the ambit of the PM Electric Drive Revolution in Innovative Vehicle Enhancement (PM E-DRIVE) program and earmarked ₹5 billion (~$53 million) to support the deployment of 3,800 e-ambulances. The outlay will be used to boost the domestic manufacturing of e-ambulance components by introducing localization requirements.
India’s renewable energy generation, excluding large hydropower, is expected to rise 4.6% from 310.59 billion units (BU) in the financial year 2026 to 325 BU in the financial year (FY) 2027, according to the Central Electricity Authority’s Load Generation Balance Report. The country’s gross energy generation from all sources for FY 2027 has been assessed at 2,040 BU. Of this, 1,715 BU is expected from conventional sources.
The Central Electricity Regulatory Commission rejected a developer’s petition seeking extension of the start date of connectivity for a 700 MW solar power project in Maharashtra from March 31, 2026, to September 30, 2027. The Commission held that the Connectivity and General Network Access Regulations do not permit the postponement of the connectivity start date.
The Uttar Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission (UPERC) approved UP Power Corporation’s (UPPCL) proposal for joint procurement of 1,130 MWh battery storage capacity in association with the Madhya Pradesh Power Management Company for 15 years under the Viability Gap Funding program.
The UPERC approved 44 power purchase agreements signed by UPPCL to procure 130.1 MW of solar power under Component C-2 of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Utthaan Mahabhiyan program. The approved tariffs range from ₹2.72 (~$0.029)/kWh to ₹2.95 (~$0.031)/kWh.
The Himachal Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission finalized the 2026 Grid Code to align the state’s grid operation framework with the Indian Electricity Grid Code. Stakeholders that submitted comments included Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board, Himachal Pradesh State Load Despatch Centre, Himachal Pradesh Power Transmission Corporation, the Directorate of Energy, and a consumer representative.
JBM ECOLIFE Mobility, a subsidiary of electric bus manufacturer JBM Auto, secured a ₹7.5 billion (~$79.4 million) investment from Motilal Oswal Alternates, the alternative investment arm of Motilal Oswal Group, to expand its electric bus operations across India.
The Madhya Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission invited bids for consultancy support to determine tariffs for renewable energy projects in the state. The last date to submit bids is July 14, 2026. Bids will be opened on July 20.
