India’s transmission infrastructure comprised approximately 509,603 circuit kilometers of transmission lines and 1,478 gigavolt-amperes of transformation capacity as of June 2026, according to Mercom India Research’s State of Transmission Infrastructure in India report. India’s transmission network has grown significantly over the past decade, with transmission line length increasing by 50.8% and transformation capacity more than doubling, rising 111.7% between April 2016 and June 2026.

The Ministry of Power introduced a market-based valuation mechanism to determine compensation for land affected by right-of-way (RoW) requirements for electricity transmission lines. The revised guidelines establish compensation at 200% of the market value of land occupied by transmission tower bases.

The Energy and Resources Institute announced the winner of its auction for 57.5 MW/115 MWh of battery energy storage systems across four 66/11 kV grid stations in Delhi.

Lucknow is emerging as a commercial and industrial clean energy market, supported by rooftop solar installations, planned Solar City development, and increasing electricity demand from commercial facilities and data centers. The city’s growing energy requirements are creating opportunities for renewable energy developers and solution providers.

Rising electricity costs and the need for reliable power are encouraging industrial consumers to adopt rooftop solar systems to reduce operating expenses. Uttar Pradesh-based packaging manufacturer Kanpur Plastipack has installed a 1 MW rooftop solar project at its manufacturing facility in Rania, Kanpur Dehat.

The Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission partly allowed a private company’s petition seeking net metering arrangements for its 660 kW rooftop solar power project while availing open access. The Commission directed the distribution company to reconcile the petitioner’s electricity bills and adjust or refund excess amounts recovered, with applicable interest.

MERC directed Maharashtra State Power Generation Company to pay ₹11.10 million (~$114,695) to a solar developer for deemed generation losses. The Commission held that compensation should be calculated using a 10-hour generation window rather than a 24-hour period.

The Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) invited bids to select developers to supply 4,800 MWh of assured peak power from interstate transmission system-connected renewable energy projects across India. The tender seeks 1,200 MW of capacity with four hours of supply.

SECI floated a tender to develop 1,200 MW of interstate transmission system-connected wind power projects across India. The deadline for submitting bids is October 29, 2026.

The Punjab Energy Development Agency invited bids for grid-connected rooftop and ground-mounted solar projects across Punjab under the Renewable Energy Service Company model. The projects will include net metering or net billing facilities.

Cybersecurity intelligence company Modat identified 8,547 internet-facing systems associated with solar and wind projects across 35 European countries. The findings raise concerns about potential cyberattacks targeting renewable energy infrastructure as power systems become increasingly digitalized.
