Inox Green Energy Services, Mitarsh Energy, Jakson Green, Inspire Clean Energy, and Sterling & Wilson emerged as the top solar project operations and maintenance (O&M) service providers in India for 2025, according to Mercom’s India Solar Market Leaderboard 2026 Report. Together, these companies accounted for approximately 86% of O&M capacity contracted in 2025, reflecting high market consolidation among leading players and highlighting the growing preference for experienced service providers capable of managing large, complex renewable energy projects.
The Ministry of Power stated that solar and wind projects with a firm start date of connectivity between July 1, 2025, and June 30, 2028, may be considered for an extension of the graded interstate transmission system (ISTS) charges waiver of 75%, 50%, or 25%, as applicable, if commissioning is delayed due to the unavailability of the transmission system.
ABCI Infrastructures won Calcutta Electric Supply Corporation’s auction to set up a 40 MW/80 MWh standalone battery energy storage system at the New Cossipore generating station in Kolkata, West Bengal. ABCI Infrastructures has won the project at a tariff of ₹326,000 (~$3,488.33)/MW/month and has signed a 12-year power purchase agreement.
The Solar Energy Corporation of India invited bids to set up 1,200 MW of ISTS-connected wind power projects across India (Tranche XX). Bids must be submitted by May 29, 2026. Bids will be opened on June 3. The scope of work includes setting up the wind project and establishing the transmission network up to the interconnection or delivery point. It also involves land identification, securing ownership, and obtaining all approvals and clearances from relevant state and local authorities.
NavPrakriti, an eastern India-based lithium-ion battery recycling and refurbishment company, announced plans to invest over ₹1 billion (~$10.7 million) to set up a greenfield critical minerals refining facility in Odisha. The company plans to begin operations by the financial year 2029.
Renewable energy company Evren secured approximately $600 million from lenders, including SMBC, Standard Chartered Bank, MUFG, DBS Bank, Crédit Agricole CIB, and BNP Paribas, to develop a 1 GW hybrid firm and dispatchable renewable energy project in Andhra Pradesh and Rajasthan. The project will integrate solar and wind power generation with a battery energy storage system.
L&T Energy GreenTech, a wholly owned subsidiary of Larsen and Toubro, signed a long-term agreement with Japan-based ITOCHU Corporation to supply 300,000 metric tons of green ammonia annually from a proposed facility in Kandla, Gujarat. The agreement establishes a take-or-pay arrangement under which ITOCHU will procure the entire output on a captive basis.
The global wind energy sector recorded 165 GW of new grid-connected capacity installed in 2025, marking the highest annual addition on record and taking total installed capacity worldwide to 1,299 GW, a 40% year-on-year increase, according to the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC). In its Global Wind Report 2026, GWEC said offshore wind contributed 9 GW, up 18% from 2024 and the third-highest annual total to date.
The Patent Trial and Appeal Board of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) invalidated all claims by Trina Solar on two TOPCon (Tunnel Oxide Passivated Contact) solar cell patents against certain subsidiaries of Canadian Solar. The USPTO also named three of Canadian Solar’s U.S. subsidiaries as directly or indirectly infringing on two of its TOPCon-related U.S. patents.
