Uttarakhand regulator adopts tariffs for 190 MWh battery storage projects

Proposed restrictions on using banked renewable energy across time-of-day periods are strengthening interest in battery energy storage systems among commercial and industrial (C&I) consumers in Maharashtra, particularly those seeking to shift surplus daytime renewable generation to evening demand.

In an exclusive interview with Mercom India, Kartik Teltia, Managing Director at Solarworld Energy Solutions, discussed the growing role of energy storage, the dominance of TOPCon solar module technology, and the need for upstream manufacturing capabilities.

The Uttarakhand Electricity Regulatory Commission approved the tariffs determined through competitive bidding for four battery energy storage system projects totaling 76 MW/190 MWh in Uttarakhand.

The Telangana Electricity Regulatory Commission rejected distribution companies’ request to lower the Component-A PM-KUSUM solar tariff from ₹3.13 (~$0.033)/kWh to ₹2.98 (~$0.031)/kWh following a goods and services tax reduction. The Commission limited the benefit available to the distribution companies from the tax change to ₹0.06/kWh.

The Solar Energy Corporation of India invited developers to bid for standalone BESS projects supplying electricity for on-demand use under its fourth energy storage procurement. The last date to submit bids is October 30, 2026. Bids will be opened on November 4.

Rajasthan Renewable Energy Corporation issued a tender for the 900 MW Rampura pumped storage project in Tonk, Rajasthan. The project will follow the build, own, operate, and transfer model. Bids must be submitted by November 30, 2026. Bids will be opened the next day.

Terra Clean, a wholly owned subsidiary of Indian Oil Corporation invited bids to aggregate land for an interstate transmission system-connected wind energy project in Gujarat. The last date to submit bids is October 28, 2026. Bids will be opened on the same day.

The Assam Power Distribution Company invited bids from developers to install grid-connected solar power projects and solar trees at Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardev Avirbhav Kshetra, Bordua in Nagaon district. The last date to submit bids is October 31, 2026. The techno-commercial bids will be opened on November 3, 2026.

Radharani Himghar, a cold storage business in Kotulpur, West Bengal installed a 250 kW rooftop solar system to lower electricity expenses. Executed by Fender Vertex Solutions, the installation is expected to deliver annual electricity bill savings of about ₹2.8 million, with a payback period of two years and eight months.

Milky Mist commissioned a 10 MW solar facility at Arasanoor in Tamil Nadu, alongside an existing 15 MW project at the location. The company expects the 25 MW Arasanoor solar plants to meet its annual electricity requirements.

India’s electric vehicle sales rose to 951,884 units during the third quarter of 2026, up 64.4% from 578,987 units a year earlier. Electric vehicles represented 12.5% of vehicle sales during the quarter, while cumulative registrations exceeded 10.41 million.

Inox Clean Energy filed draft papers with the Securities and Exchange Board of India for an initial public offering of up to ₹100 billion (~$1.04 billion). The proposed offering combines ₹80 billion (~$834.04 million) in fresh equity with a ₹20 billion (~$208.51 million) offer for sale, and the company may consider a pre-offering placement of up to ₹16 billion (~$166.81 million).
