India’s push to build a domestic solar manufacturing ecosystem is creating new challenges for manufacturers. While policy measures such as the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers and Domestic Content Requirement are driving localization, the industry is grappling with a widening mismatch between module and cell manufacturing capacity, increased domestic cell prices, and financing constraints.

The Gujarat Electricity Regulatory Commission’s decision to reduce banking charges to ₹1 (~$0.01)/kWh from ₹1.5 (~$0.015)/kWh after a 2.5-year interval has provided much-needed relief to open access consumers and improved project economics.

Round-the-clock and firm and dispatchable renewable energy are gaining traction, with newer commercial and industrial consumers evaluating projects based on how efficiently they can match future power demand.

NLC India announced the winner of its auction to appoint the owner’s engineering consultant for NLC India Renewables to develop a 600 MW solar power project with a 300 MW/1,800 MWh energy storage system in Raghwa/Fatehgarh, Jaisalmer, Rajasthan.

Ukraine’s state-owned ‘Guaranteed Buyer’ invited bids to allocate 50 MW of annual support quota for solar power projects through a closed auction. The auction can have multiple winners. The deadline to submit bids is September 24, 2026. Bids will be opened the following day.

Solar module manufacturer Waaree Energies is increasing the capacity of its solar module manufacturing plant in Arizona in the U.S. from 1 GW to 1.6 GW by investing $37 million. Following the expansion, the company’s aggregate manufacturing capacity in the U.S. will increase to 4.8 GW.

Renewable energy solutions provider Canadian Solar’s revenue for the second quarter of 2026 declined 29% year-over-year (YoY) to $1.21 billion compared to $1.69 billion. The revenue beat analysts’ expectations by $71.94 million.

Solar capacity additions in Africa are projected to reach 17 GW in 2026, clocking a 45% YoY rise amid a surge in Chinese solar panel imports to the continent, according to a recent report by Ember. The figure implies an installation rate of around 100,000 solar panels or 47 MW of solar capacity each day in 2026.
