Solar cell capacity under ALMM rises to 36.9 GW

Uttar Pradesh’s clean energy market is increasingly being shaped by rooftop solar, open access, captive procurement, and emerging storage demand as businesses look for ways to manage electricity costs, improve reliability, and meet sustainability targets.

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy added 1,397 MW of solar cell manufacturing capacity under the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM) List-II, taking the cumulative enlisted capacity to 36,865 MW.

In an interview with Mercom India, Kota Bhanu Prakash, CEO and Board Member at STEAG Energy Services India (a Bluspring Enterprise), discussed the changing role of operation and maintenance, the integration of battery storage, advanced diagnostics and artificial intelligence, and the operational challenges associated with delivering reliable renewable power.

The Central Electricity Regulatory Commission rejected a developer’s petition seeking a review of its earlier order determining a levelized tariff of ₹4.20 (~$0.0438)/kWh for a 10 MW solar photovoltaic project at the Koderma Thermal Power Station in Jharkhand.

The Kerala State Electricity Regulatory Commission issued an order correcting provisions governing the replacement of defective low-tension and high-tension meters owned by distribution licensees.

The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee announced the winner of its auction to set up a 2 MW solar power project in Amritsar, Punjab.

PFC Consulting announced the winner of its auction to set up an intrastate transmission system for the air-insulated substation at Kandalgaon in Maharashtra’s Raigad district.

REC Power Development and Consultancy announced the winner of its auction to establish a 765/400/220 kV air-insulated switchgear intrastate transmission project at Balsane in Dhule, Maharashtra.

PFC Consulting announced the winner of its auction to set up a 400/220/132 kV air-insulated substation at Latur, Maharashtra, to facilitate power evacuation from utility-scale renewable energy projects.

PFC Consulting issued two tenders under a common interstate transmission system augmentation scheme associated with the evacuation of power from NTPC’s 2×800 MW Gadarwara TPS-II and an additional 1,500 MW of renewable energy at the Mandsaur Pooling Station in Madhya Pradesh, on a build, own, operate, and transfer basis. Bids must be submitted by November 27, 2026. Bids will be opened on the same date.

The Andhra Pradesh Capital Region Development Authority invited bids to establish and operate an electrical distribution network, including the distribution and retail supply of electricity, in the Amaravati Capital Region, Andhra Pradesh. The last date to submit bids is October 12, 2026. Bids will be opened the following day.

Cement manufacturer Nuvoco Vistas Corporation will procure renewable power from Clean Max Enviro Energy Solutions’ 46.4 MW wind-solar-plus-storage project in Rajasthan. The project, located in Bhikamkhore, will comprise 20 MW of wind capacity and 26.4 MW of solar capacity, along with 2 MWh of battery storage.

Clean Max Enviro Energy Solutions raised ₹25 billion (~$260.5 million) through green debt securities issued as non-convertible debentures. The company plans to use the funding for large-scale renewable energy projects, including solar, wind, hybrid generation, and battery storage.

Maharashtra-based chemicals manufacturer Neogen Chemicals raised approximately ₹6 billion (~$60 million) through its first qualified institutions placement of equity shares, which was subscribed more than 6.5 times.

Germany rolled out a roadmap to transition away from fossil fuels by 2045 and has proposed phasing out coal-fired power by 2038. Federal Environment Minister Carsten Schneider recently presented the roadmap at the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

Researchers from the University of Cambridge in the UK have developed a scaled-up version of a solar-powered reactor that can convert plastic waste into clean hydrogen fuel and industrial chemicals.
