The government is pushing to establish a domestic solar manufacturing base for high-efficiency solar modules and reduce the renewable energy sector’s import dependence. Some of the initiatives devised to support manufacturing in India include a Basic Customs Duty (BCD) and a domestic content requirement (DCR) mandate for modules that would apply to central public sector projects. The approved list of module manufacturers (ALMM), which has only Indian manufacturers listed, is effectively keeping imports at bay currently.
