Funding and M&A Roundup: SMT Energy Raises Up to $268 Million

SMT Energy, a developer, owner, and operator of battery energy storage projects, has entered into an equity partnership with Climate Adaptive Infrastructure for an investment of up to $268 million at the parent-company level. SMT Energy develops, owns, and operates energy infrastructure projects. Its portfolio includes distributed generation and utility-scale battery storage projects, as well as powered land projects.

Clean Max Enviro Energy Solutions, a renewable energy project developer, has raised ₹25 billion (~$260.5 million) through green debt securities issued as non-convertible debentures. The company plans to use the funding for large-scale renewable energy projects, including solar, wind, hybrid generation, and battery storage.

Electric vehicle and infrastructure company Ultraviolette has raised $85 million in a funding round led by Lip-Bu Tan, chairman of Walden International, Yali Capital, and TDK Ventures. Tan will also join Ultraviolette as an advisor. Ultraviolette said the funding will support its plans to step up the production of its electric two-wheelers. It will also use the capital to bring its Tesseract and Shockwave models to market and develop its next-generation EV platforms.

India-based battery chemicals manufacturer Neogen Chemicals has raised approximately ₹6 billion (~$62 million) through its first qualified institutions placement of equity shares, which was subscribed more than 6.5 times. The QIP received participation from domestic and global institutional investors, including mutual funds, alternative investment funds, non-banking financial companies, insurance companies, and foreign portfolio investors.

Off-grid solar company Sun King’s Zambia subsidiary has received a $5 million equity investment from Acumen’s Hardest-to-Reach Catalyze initiative to support the company’s expansion in the country and help it access local currency financing. With Acumen’s support, the company is expected to provide electricity access to nearly 5.6 million people in Zambia over the next five years.

Asia-Pacific real asset owner and manager ESR has signed an agreement to acquire 100% of Aquila Clean Energy APAC from Aquila Group. The transaction’s financial terms were not disclosed. Aquila Clean Energy APAC has a 1.6 GW portfolio of operational, under-construction, and advanced-stage development assets across Australia and New Zealand, South Korea, Japan, and Taiwan.
