For textile businesses, electricity is a recurring operational expense. Rooftop solar installations can help such businesses reduce their dependence on grid electricity, lower power bills, and improve long-term cost predictability. By generating electricity at their premises, textile companies can offset a portion of their daytime power consumption while reducing operating costs.

Kerala-based Radhas Textiles has installed a 161 kW rooftop solar system at its facility in Punalur, Kerala, to reduce its electricity expenses.

The project was developed and installed by Wattsun Energy, a Kerala-based clean energy solutions provider.

The rooftop system uses Reliance’s 695 W heterojunction technology (HJT) solar modules and two 75 kW inverters, providing a combined inverter capacity of 150 kW.

Radhas Textiles’ monthly electricity bill before the rooftop solar installation was approximately ₹1.2 million (~$13,200). With estimated monthly savings of ₹600,000 (~$6,600), the company expects to reduce its electricity expenses by 50%.

Wattsun Energy India said that the project did not encounter any significant installation challenges.

The rooftop solar system will allow Radhas Textiles to generate electricity at its premises and offset a portion of its grid electricity consumption, potentially reducing its long-term operating expenses.

In September 2026, a clothing wholesaler in Kollam, Kerala, installed a 20 kW rooftop solar system developed by Wattsun Energy India to reduce its electricity expenses. The project is expected to generate annual savings of ₹192,000 (~$2,112) to ₹240,000 (~$2,640), with a payback period of 3.3 to 4.2 years.

Earlier, Wattsun Energy India installed a 20 kW rooftop solar system at the Vintage View apartment complex in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. The project is expected to generate annual electricity bill savings of ₹230,000 (~$2,530) to ₹288,000 (~$3,168), with an estimated payback period of 3.5 to 4 years.

To raise awareness about the benefits of solar projects, Mercom India has been hosting a pan-India C&I Clean Energy Meet series, bringing renewable energy developers and commercial and industrial power consumers together to discuss clean energy adoption. The next event in the series will be held in Pune.
