Kinematics, a provider of motion control systems for solar, industrial, and satellite applications, has acquired RenuTrak, a provider of solar tracker repowering solutions. The financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.

RenuTrak focuses on repowering existing solar tracker systems by upgrading selected components and controls rather than replacing entire tracker systems, according to Kinematics.

Following the acquisition, RenuTrak will operate as part of Kinematics. The companies plan to combine RenuTrak’s repowering capabilities with Kinematics’ resources, customer support operations, increased investment, and a dedicated Phoenix service center.

According to the release, the demand for repowering services is increasing as installed solar trackers age and asset owners and independent power producers seek to improve the performance and reliability of existing projects.

Together, Kinematics and RenuTrak are expected to offer enhanced capabilities across new installations, operations, maintenance, and repowering projects–supporting customers through the full lifecycle of their solar assets.

“This acquisition represents an important step in advancing our mission to deliver high-quality solar tracker solutions at scale,” said John Payne, CEO of Kinematics. “RenuTrak brings strong expertise in the solar repower market and shares our commitment to quality and innovation. Together, we are better positioned to meet the evolving needs of the global solar industry.”

Kinematics is headquartered in Phoenix, Arizona, and operates globally with facilities in Asia, Europe, and the Americas.

In 1H 2026, corporate M&A activity in the solar sector increased to 57 transactions compared to 50 transactions in the first half of 2025, as per the recently released Mercom’s 1H and Q2 2026 Solar Funding and M&A Report.

In June, Create Energy, an advanced energy and electrical power system solutions provider, acquired SOL Components, a solar mounting and tracker company, from Kloeckner Metals to expand its energy systems platform and solar tracker portfolio. Create Energy said the acquisition will add the SOL Components tracker to its ONTRACK portfolio.
