Korkia Semecon Finland Renewables, a joint venture between Korkia and Semecon, has completed the sale of the 125 MW Kukonkylä battery energy storage project in Finland to renewable energy developer and independent power producer Enlight Renewable Energy.

The ready-to-build standalone battery storage project is located in Sievi, Northern Ostrobothnia, and it is among the largest publicly announced battery storage projects in Finland. Under Enlight’s ownership, the project is expected to connect to Finland’s transmission grid in the first half of 2028.

Korkia made its investment decision on the project in November 2024 and brought it to ready-to-build status in May 2025, six months later.

EY-Parthenon Corporate Finance and HPP Attorneys advised Korkia and Semecon on the transaction.

“Kukonkylä supports Finland’s renewable energy production, giving the grid the flexibility it needs as renewable capacity keeps growing. Beyond this project, Korkia is advancing a broader pipeline of solar, wind and battery storage projects across Finland and Sweden. We thank Semecon and the municipality of Sievi for their cooperation throughout the project, and Enlight for a smooth and efficient process,” said Petri Haataja, VP, Nordics at Korkia.

Korkia has more than 160 projects across eight countries, representing 15 GW of renewable energy and energy storage projects in mid-stage or late-stage development.

In July, Sonnedix, an independent solar power producer, announced the acquisition of a 260 MW battery storage portfolio in Tuscany, Italy, from Sphera Energy. The portfolio comprises two adjacent standalone battery storage projects. One project has 160 MW of power capacity and a four-hour duration, while the other has 100 MW and the same duration.

According to Mercom’s recently released 1H 2026 Funding and M&A for Energy Storage report, project acquisition activity accelerated sharply during the first half of 2026, with approximately 14 GW of battery storage capacity changing hands in 63 transactions, compared with 6.1 GW in 31 transactions during the same period in 2025.
