Egypt has announced plans to add 2,500 MW of renewable energy capacity to the country’s electricity grid before next summer. The country also discussed comprehensive action plans to secure fuel supplies and ensure grid stability, emphasizing the integration of these new renewable sources as a key focus. However, Egypt intends to maintain a strategic petroleum products reserve and allocate funding for energy sector projects.

Elsewedy Electric for Power Transmission and Distribution announced the completion and handover of the El Saad Solar Plant, with a peak generation capacity of 348.6 MW. The project was developed in partnership with Jinko Power and Al Ghazala Energy Company. The generated solar power will be supplied to the Saudi Power Procurement Company. Elsewedy Electric claimed that the project was completed in 16.5 months, well ahead of the 24-month deadline.

Morocco‘s Office National de l’ Électricité et de l’ Eau Potable and the Moroccan Agency for Sustainable Energy signed power purchase agreements under the Noor Atlas photovoltaic solar program. The project includes six solar power projects with a combined capacity of 305 MW. These facilities will be built in Morocco’s Ain Beni Mathar, Boudnib, Bouanane, Enjil, Tata, and Tan- Tan regions. Construction of the projects will be undertaken by a consortium of Moroccan and European companies. Germany’s development bank, KfW, and the European Investment Bank will provide concessional financing, while the Bank of Africa will provide commercial financing for the project.

OQ Alternative Energy (OQAE) has nearly completed building its wind and solar projects, which are expected to be operational by the end of this year. Together, these projects will supply 330 MW of renewable power. OQAE is developing the projects in partnership with TotalEnergies with a combined investment of more than $230 million. The projects include the Riyah 1 and Riyah 2 wind projects at Petroleum Development Oman‘s Amin and West Nimr fields in the country’s southern region, as well as the North Oman Solar Plant at Saih Nahaydah.
