MENA Weekly Round-Up: Egypt Secures $391 Million for Wind Power Transmission

Egypt  attracted an investment of EGP20 billion ($391 million) from an Egyptian-Emirati consortium to develop a high-voltage transmission line. The infrastructure will evacuate electricity generated by large-scale wind projects in the Gulf of Suez and deliver it to the national grid. The project aims to help transmit renewable energy across the country, where capacity is growing faster than the transmission network. Intelligent Globe Construction will lead the project, which covers the engineering, construction, and commissioning of Lot 2 of a 500 kV double-circuit overhead transmission line. The transmission line will extend approximately 61.6 km between the Orascom and El Hawamdeya substations.

Alternative Energy Projects entered into engineering, procurement, and construction and operations and maintenance agreements with United Real Estate Company, acting through its subsidiary Marasi United, to develop an 8.77 MW solar power system at Souk Sharq, Kuwait. The scope of work includes the design, engineering, procurement, construction, installation, commissioning, operation, and maintenance of the solar system. The project will combine rooftop and carport solar installations at the Sharq Waterfront development.

Jordan signed a $1 billion investment agreement to develop the country’s first utility-scale green ammonia production facility. The agreement was signed with a consortium of Polish and Emirati developers, supported by technical experts from the Netherlands. The project will be developed as an off-grid, vertically integrated facility near the port of Aqaba.

Türkiye-based vehicle manufacturer Karsan commissioned a new solar project with a DC installed capacity of 3.5 MW in Bursa. The solar project is expected to supply 25% of the total electricity requirement of the company’s manufacturing facility. It is projected to generate 4.6 million kWh of renewable power annually. The company aims to use renewable energy to support the production of approximately 1,000 vehicles per year. The solar project uses locally manufactured 620 Wp TOPCon bifacial solar modules along with high-efficiency inverters.
