The UAE is developing 17,980 MW of renewable energy capacity across 14 projects scheduled to come online by 2030, according to EICDataStream. The country also has 12,947 MW of conventional power capacity under development across nine projects. Renewable energy projects account for 11% of the 136 energy projects currently under development in the UAE, representing part of an estimated $210 billion investment pipeline.

Turkish steel producer Kardemir and its subsidiaries plan to develop solar projects totaling 92.5 MW capacity. The company expects to invest approximately TRY3.96 billion (~$80.76 million) in the projects, which are scheduled to be commissioned during 2028. Kardemir itself plans an 85 MW project, while subsidiaries Kardökmak and Karçel plan projects of 5 MW and 2.5 MW, respectively. Kardemir said it has completed the land acquisition process and begun project design, environmental impact assessment, zoning, and other technical work required for the developments.

Norwegian renewable energy developer Scatec, in partnership with EDF Power Solutions, began construction of the 900 MW Shadwan onshore wind project in Egypt. Scatec has also secured three-year equity bridge loan facilities totaling $150 million from The Arab Energy Fund, comprising $50 million for Shadwan and $100 million for its 1,950 MW solar and 3,935 MWh battery energy storage Energy Valley project. Scatec and EDF have entered into a joint development agreement targeting a 29% equity interest for EDF in Shadwan, with additional equity investors also expected to join the project. Shadwan entails an estimated capital expenditure of $716 million and is expected to generate approximately 4 TWh of electricity annually.

Chinese battery manufacturer Gotion High-Tech will supply battery energy storage systems for three projects in Saudi Arabia, with a combined storage capacity of 6 GWh. The Al Muwayah, Haden, and Al Kahafa projects, each sized at 500 MW/2 GWh, were awarded to a consortium comprising ACWA Power, Saudi Energy Company, and Al Sharif Contracting and Development Company. Together, the projects account for 75% of the 2 GW/8 GWh capacity procured under the first group of the Saudi Power Procurement Company’s utility-scale battery storage program.
