NTPC Green Energy (NGEL) has announced the commercial operation of 153.94 MW of capacity of its Kalasar Solar Energy Project in Bikaner, Rajasthan.

The capacity comprises the project’s second and third parts, totaling 73.06 MW and 80.88 MW, respectively. These capacities form part of the 650 MW solar component under NTPC Renewable Energy’s 500 MW REMCL round-the-clock project.

Both projects will begin commercial operations on October 1, 2026.

After adding the 153.94 MW capacity, NTPC Green Energy’s total installed capacity will increase to 11,212.51 MW.

In the first quarter of the financial year 2027, NTPC Green Energy reported a net profit of ₹3.05 billion (~$31.55 million), up 38% year over year (YoY) from ₹2.2 billion (~$22.76 million). The company reported a total income of ₹11.22 billion (~$116.06 million), up 49% YoY from ₹7.52 billion (~$77.79 million).

In June 2026, NGEL invited bids for engineering, procurement, and construction of 3,200 MWh of battery storage systems at NTPC Renewable Energy’s solar project in Fatehgarh.

In the same month, NGEL invited bids to develop 7,800 MWh of battery energy storage systems at NTPC REL’s solar project in Bikaner.

In April 2026, NGEL commissioned 150 MW capacity at its 300 MW solar project in Rajasthan, owned by Project Sixteen Renewable Power, a subsidiary of its joint venture, ONGC NTPC Green.

In March 2026, NGEL announced that 75 MW out of the total 500 MW Bhadla solar project, located in Phalodi achieved commercial operation with effect from March 25, 2026. With this, the entire 500 MW capacity at the Bhadla project has commercial operation.

According to Mercom’s India Solar Market Leaderboard 2026, NGEL was one of India’s top utility-scale solar project developers in 2025.

India added a record 27 GW of solar capacity in the first half of the calendar year 2026, up 49% YoY from 18 GW, according to Mercom India Research’s newly released Q2 and 1H 2026 India Solar Market Update. India installed nearly 12 GW of solar capacity in Q2 of 2026, making it the second-highest quarterly addition on record. Installations declined 24% from 15 GW in the first quarter but remained broadly flat YoY.
