The healthcare sector stands to benefit significantly from transitioning to solar energy, given its high power requirements. By leveraging available rooftop space, healthcare facilities can meet part of their energy needs through clean power, support critical research and innovation, and reduce electricity costs.

Pharmaceutical manufacturing company Kilitch Healthcare India is among the healthcare firms which have leveraged rooftop systems to slash their electricity costs and make more judicious use of their resources. The company has commissioned a 1.25 MW rooftop solar project at its manufacturing facility in Talegaon, Dindori, Maharashtra.

Kilitch Healthcare specializes in the production of sterile injectables in liquid and powder forms, ophthalmic formulations, nasal formulations, prefilled syringes, and swab sticks

The rooftop project was developed by Polaris Renewable Solutions and commissioned in June 2026. The project involved an investment of ₹40 million (~$415,376).

The rooftop system was set up using Axitec Energy’s 600 Wp TOPCon solar modules and Sungrow inverters, totaling 1 MW. The project has a minimum guaranteed generation of 150,000 units per month, and approximately 5,000 units per day.

Polaris said the solar system is expected to meet more than 35% of the manufacturing facility’s electricity consumption. The electricity generated will be used for captive consumption under a net metering arrangement.

Before commissioning the solar rooftop system, the facility’s monthly electricity expenditure around ₹3 million (~$31,153.2) to ₹3.4 million (~$35,307), the company said.

The project is expected to yield savings of around ₹1.25 million (~$12,980.5) per month, and an estimated ₹15 million (~$155,766) per year.

The project is estimated to have a payback period of less than three years.

Polaris said that one of the biggest challenges during the project execution was avoiding roof penetrations. To solve the problem, the company developed a non-invasive mounting system that preserved the existing roof structure while supporting the installation.

The companies also said the system was designed with an electrical layout intended to minimize direct- and alternating-current power losses.

Kilitch said that it is evaluating additional renewable energy investments, including integrating battery energy storage with the solar installation.

In March 2026, Polaris installed a 2.63 MW solar project for Raviraj Corn Products at its facility in Solapur, Maharashtra.

According to Mercom India Research’s Q1 2026 India Rooftop Solar Market Report, industrial, commercial, and government segments contributed approximately 11%, 7%, and 0.4% to the total capacity additions in the quarter.
