Independent power producer ReNew Energy Global will set up a 6.5 GW solar ingot-wafer manufacturing facility in Anakapalli, Andhra Pradesh, with an investment of ₹42 billion (~$446.47 million).

Through this manufacturing facility, ReNew aims to enable backward integration of its solar module and cell manufacturing processes.

The facility is expected to be commissioned within 24 months and is a part of ReNew’s ₹820 billion (~$8.71 billion) investment commitment in Andhra Pradesh.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu laid the foundation stone for the plant.

The company said that with the expansion of the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers framework to include wafers and ingots from June 2028, there is a supportive regulatory environment and business case for this backward integration.

In November 2025, the company announced it would invest approximately ₹600 billion (~$6.76 billion) to set up multiple green energy projects in Andhra Pradesh. This would add to the previously announced committed investment of roughly ₹220 billion (~$2.48 million).

Besides the ingot-wafer plant, the company had said it was planning to set up a 2 GW pumped hydro project, a 3,000 kilotons per annum green ammonia facility, and 5 GW of hybrid renewable energy projects, comprising wind, solar, and solar-battery energy storage systems.

ReNew has a total operational solar module manufacturing capacity of 6.5 GW. It plans to expand cell manufacturing capacity to 6.5 GW by December 2026, with 2.5 GW already operational.

The company commissioned its first wind project in Andhra Pradesh in 2015, with a capacity of 24 GW.

ReNew’s solar manufacturing facilities produced more than 4.1 GW of modules and approximately 1.86 GW of cells during the financial year 2026.

Last May, it secured an investment of ₹8.7 billion (~$100 million) from British International Investment, a UK-based development finance institution and impact investor.

ReNew already has an operating portfolio of 717 MW of wind and 60 MW of solar capacity spread across 10 sites in Andhra Pradesh.

The company has a generation capacity of 2.8 GW, comprising 1.8 GW of solar, 1 GW of wind, and 2 GWh of battery storage. As of March 2026, it has a total clean energy portfolio of approximately 20 GW, including 1.7 GW of battery storage.
