In an interview on the sidelines of the Mercom India Renewables Summit 2026 held in New Delhi on July 1 and 2, Khalid Nadeem, Chief Operating Officer at SAEL, said the primary bottleneck for renewable energy growth is the transmission network and grid connectivity, which have not expanded as quickly as the growth of renewable projects. This infrastructure gap leads to delays in project execution, power curtailment during peak hours, and reduced profitability, affecting both developers and investors. The most significant challenge to achieving India’s 500-gigawatt non-fossil fuel capacity goal is the transmission network and grid connectivity.
