Solar power solutions can help textile manufacturing facilities meet high daytime electricity demand by tapping into their extensive roof areas to set up solar installations and limit grid electricity purchases.

Uttar Pradesh-based GESL Spinners is among the textile companies in the country that are leveraging the benefits of rooftop solar installations to cut down on their grid exposure. The company’s 5.63 MWp rooftop solar project at its Rampur factory was installed and commissioned by Solluz Energy in 2025.

The project is expected to generate approximately 7.9 million kWh of electricity annually, which would yield approximately 1.4 million kWh of power per MWp annually. It will also help GESL Spinners save around ₹63 million (~$658,615) annually in power bill payments. The project has an estimated payback period of 3.5 years.

It is also estimated to reduce the facility’s carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 5,530 metric tons annually.

The rooftop solar system uses Trina Solar modules rated at 595 Wp and Sungrow inverters with a capacity of 125 kW. It uses the available rooftop area at GESL Spinners’ industrial facility, covering 36,976 square meters.

India added 2.7 GW of rooftop solar capacity in the first quarter (Q1) of 2026 compared to 2.2 GW in Q4 2025 and 1.2 GW in Q1 2025, according to Mercom India Research’s newly released Q1 2026 India Rooftop Solar Market Report.

While the residential segment accounted for the lion’s share of the total rooftop solar installations during Q1 2026, the industrial, commercial, and government segments contributed 11%, 7%, and 0.4% of the quarterly additions, respectively.

In June, Skyparc Energy India installed and commissioned a 424.96 kW rooftop solar power project for Dhanish Cotton Mills. The project is expected to generate nearly 1 million units of electricity annually, with annual savings of around ₹7 million (~$73,250).

Mercom India hosts a pan-India C&I Clean Energy Meet series, bringing renewable energy developers and commercial and industrial power consumers together to discuss clean energy adoption. The next event in the series will be held in Hyderabad on August 21, 2026.
