					</table><p>In 2025, tender announcements for utility-scale solar projects <a href="https://mercomindia.com/solar-tender-and-auction-activity-slumps-in-2025" target="_blank" rel="noopener">declined</a> to nearly 44 GW, down 45% from 2024, according to Mercom India Research. During the year, around 20 GW of projects were auctioned, a 57% decline compared to 2024. Solar tender and auction activity declined in 2025 as state distribution companies showed limited appetite for signing new long-term solar power purchase agreements amid falling daytime power prices and a backlog of awarded solar and wind capacity awaiting power sale agreements.</p>
<p>Rising electricity tariffs and evolving regulations are <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/ci-power-procurement-shifts-to-open-access-and-rooftop-solar-amid-rising-tariffs" target="_blank" rel="noopener">pushing</a> India’s commercial and industrial consumers to rethink how they procure power. Businesses are increasingly turning to renewable energy sources to meet their power requirements. Rooftop solar, green energy open access, supported by battery energy storage solutions as required, can significantly reduce electricity costs while improving the availability of reliable power.</p>
<p>The Gujarat Electricity Regulatory Commission <a href="https://mercomindia.com/gujarat-regulator-revises-commissioning-timelines-for-renewable-energy-projects#:~:text=The%20Gujarat%20Electricity%20Regulatory%20Commission,by%20restoring%20longer%20timelines%20for" target="_blank" rel="noopener">allowed</a> petitions filed by Gujarat Energy Transmission Corporation seeking amendments to the state’s wind, solar, and wind–solar hybrid tariff orders, 2024, granting significant relief to renewable energy developers by restoring longer timelines for evacuation infrastructure and commissioning.</p>
<p>Hyderabad-based solar module and cell manufacturer, Premier Energies, <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/premier-energies-commissions-400-mw-solar-cell-manufacturing-line-in-telangana" target="_blank" rel="noopener">announced</a> the commissioning of a 400 MW solar photovoltaic cell manufacturing facility at its E-City plant in Maheshwaram, Telangana, through its wholly owned subsidiary, Premier Energies Photovoltaic. The commissioning is part of the expansion of its existing facility.</p>
<p>The Union Cabinet <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/government-to-infuse-%E2%82%B950-billion-equity-into-sidbi" target="_blank" rel="noopener">approved</a> equity support of ₹50 billion (~$545.72 million) to the Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI). SIDBI offers loans to micro, small, and medium enterprises for the purchase of machinery, working capital, and projects, including solar installations. The Department of Financial Services will infuse this equity support into SIDBI in three tranches.</p>
<p>Nxtra Data, Airtel’s data centre arm, <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/data-center-firm-nxtra-increases-renewable-energy-use-by-14-5-in-fy-2025" target="_blank" rel="noopener">outlined</a> its sustainability strategy and performance for the financial year 2025 in its Sustainability Report, highlighting progress in energy transition, climate action, energy efficiency, water stewardship, and green buildings. The company highlighted that an efficient energy transition was the need of the hour to meet the growing power demands of data centers.</p>
<p>NTPC invited expressions of interest to <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/ntpc-invites-bids-for-1-gwh-compressed-air-long-duration-energy-storage-projects" target="_blank" rel="noopener">develop</a> a pilot or utility-scale project for a compressed air-based, including liquified air-based, long-duration energy storage system with a storage capacity of up to 1,000 MWh. The last date to submit the bids is February 23, 2026, and bids will be opened the following day. The EoI does not require any earnest money deposit or bank guarantee at this stage.</p>
<p>New Delhi-based solar and waste-to-energy company SAEL Industries <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/sael-commissions-800-mw-of-solar-projects-at-khavda-in-gujarat#:~:text=New%20Delhi%2Dbased%20solar%20and,and%20SAEL%20Solar%20P5%2C%20respectively." target="_blank" rel="noopener">commissioned</a> 800 MW of solar projects at the Khavda Renewable Energy Park in Gujarat. The company commissioned projects with capacities of 400 MWp and 500 MWp through its subsidiaries, SAEL Solar P4 and SAEL Solar P5, respectively.</p>
<p>Power transmission and renewable energy company IndiGrid <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/indigrid-raises-%E2%82%B915-billion-in-funding-through-institutional-placement" target="_blank" rel="noopener">raised</a> ₹15 billion (~$163.15 million) in funding through an institutional placement, bringing the total funds raised in the financial year 2026 to ₹19.38 billion (~$210.8 million). IndiGrid Investment Managers, the investment management arm of IndiGrid, approved this fundraise last year.</p>
<p>Researchers at the University of New South Wales, Sydney, <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/antimony-chalcogenide-solar-cell-efficiency-hits-a-new-high-of-10-7" target="_blank" rel="noopener">set</a> a world record efficiency for solar cells based on antimony chalcogenide, achieving a certified power conversion efficiency of 10.7%, according to a study published in Nature Energy. The result, independently verified and supported by a laboratory-measured efficiency of 11.02%, marks the highest confirmed performance for the emerging photovoltaic material and its first inclusion in the international Solar Cell Efficiency Tables.</p>
<p>Berlin-based climate fintech company Cloover <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/climate-fintech-company-cloover-raises-1-2-billion-in-debt-equity" target="_blank" rel="noopener">secured</a> over $1.2 billion in funding commitments, comprising equity and debt facilities from investors, to build an AI operating system to support residential and decentralized renewable energy solutions. The funding package comprised $22 million in Series A equity financing and a $1.2 billion debt facility.</p>
<p>Asia-Pacific <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/gwec-asia-pacific-to-lead-as-global-wind-capacity-heads-toward-2-tw-by-2030" target="_blank" rel="noopener">continues</a> to drive global wind growth, led by China and India, as worldwide wind capacity is expected to surpass 2 TW by 2030, according to the Global Wind Energy Council’s (GWEC) Global Wind Market Outlook Q3 2025 Update. GWEC Market Intelligence revised its 2025 installation outlook upward by 8.8%, or 13.3 GW, reflecting faster-than-expected buildout across Asia.</p>

					</table><p>Rising electricity tariffs and evolving regulations are pushing India’s commercial and industrial (C&amp;I) consumers to rethink how they procure power. Businesses are increasingly turning to renewable energy sources to meet their power requirements.</p>
<p>Rooftop solar, green energy open access, supported by battery energy storage solutions as required, can significantly reduce electricity costs while improving the availability of reliable power.</p>
<p>According to Jayant Mhetar, Chief Executive Officer at <a href="https://ztric.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">ZTRIC India</a>, commercial consumers paying electricity tariffs of ₹15 (~$0.16)/kWh to ₹20 (~$0.22)/kWh can recover their rooftop solar investments in as few as 12 to 18 months. Industrial consumers with lower tariffs typically have payback periods of 2 to 3 years.</p>
<p>Rooftop solar, however, has a few challenges. Limited roof space often prevents industries from meeting their full power demand solely through solar installations. This is where green open access regulations are proving transformative.</p>
<p>Recent policy changes allow even low-tension and high-tension consumers with loads above 100 kW to procure renewable power through open access—something that was earlier viable only for large, multi-megawatt consumers.</p>
<p>There is a general consensus that industries should first optimize rooftop solar, then procure green energy through open access to cover residual demand.</p>
<p>Rahul Mahakaniya, Chief Marketing Officer at <a href="https://soleosenergy.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Soleos Energy</a>, stressed the importance of choosing the right model for open access.</p>
<p>While project execution typically takes 4 to 6 months, decision-making often takes longer as companies evaluate risks, savings, and policy frameworks. “Open access is no longer just a sustainability decision—it’s a financial strategy,” he said.</p>
<p>Contrary to common perception, open access power purchase agreements (PPAs) can be simpler and more flexible. Since power is supplied virtually from a solar park, companies can relocate operations without stranding assets on a roof.</p>
<p><strong>Maharashtra at the Forefront</strong></p>
<p>Maharashtra is among the leading states in renewable energy adoption. As of September 2025, the state has nearly 4.8 GW of open-access solar capacity installed, <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/product/q3-2025-mercom-india-solar-open-access-market-report" target="_blank" rel="noopener">accounting</a> for over 17% of India’s total open-access installations and ranking second nationally in both rooftop and open-access solar.</p>
<p>Despite recent regulatory uncertainty, Maharashtra continues to maintain a strong pipeline of open access and hybrid renewable projects, creating opportunities for industries seeking cost-efficient, cleaner power.</p>
<p><strong>Battery Storage: From Grid Stability to Reliability</strong></p>
<p>Battery energy storage systems (BESS) have emerged as a key element. Although current economic conditions limit direct savings for many industrial consumers, batteries are increasingly critical to grid stability and reliability.</p>
<p>“Batteries are growing in popularity not because of savings alone, but because the grid needs them,” said Mahakaniya, noting that states are already reducing banking provisions and considering battery mandates in upcoming tariff orders.</p>
<p>For commercial consumers and data centers with high tariffs or critical uptime requirements, batteries can already be viable, especially when replacing or supplementing diesel generators.</p>
<p>There is a wide cost difference between battery systems and diesel generators. Battery-backed power is available at ₹6.5 (~$0.07)-₹10 (~$0.11)/kWh, whereas operating diesel generation costs around ₹18 (~$0.19)-₹24 (~$0.27)/kWh.</p>
<p>While batteries may not fully replace diesel sets, they can significantly reduce diesel dependence and operating costs, particularly for short-duration outages.</p>
<p><strong>Why Waiting Rarely Pays Off</strong></p>
<p>Experts also caution against delaying renewable investments in anticipation of lower prices.</p>
<p>“Solar prices have largely stabilized,” said Mahakaniya. “Waiting a year to save marginal capex often results in far greater losses.”</p>
<p>The advice to C&amp;I consumers is clear: treat renewable energy as a financial investment, not just a green initiative.</p>
<p>At Mercom India’s <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/event/c-and-i-clean-energy-meet-2026-nashik" target="_blank" rel="noopener">C&amp;I Clean Energy Meet</a> in Nashik, experts highlighted that rising electricity tariffs and evolving regulations are making renewable energy a strategic financial choice for C&amp;I consumers. The main takeaway was a clear adoption strategy: prioritize rooftop solar, then utilize green open access to cover residual demand, as recent policy adjustments have made open access practical even for smaller consumers.</p>
<p>Speakers also emphasized that open-access PPAs, when structured as balanced, long-term agreements, can offer flexibility, predictable savings, and greater scalability than rooftop-only</p>
<p>solutions. They added that battery energy storage is expected to become an integral part of the ecosystem—driven primarily by grid stability and reliability rather than immediate savings—while already offering cost advantages over diesel generators for certain users.</p>
<p>Above all, the discussion emphasized that delaying renewable investments in anticipation of lower prices rarely pays off, and treating clean power procurement as a financial investment and acting early delivers the greatest savings.</p>

					</table><p><a href="https://www.servotech.in/https:/www.servotech.in/https:/www.servotech.in/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Servotech Power Systems</a>, an electric vehicle (EV) charging solutions provider, has secured an order to build nine EV charging stations for the Nashik Municipal Corporation (<a href="https://nmc.gov.in/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">NMC</a>) in Maharashtra.</p>
<p>With the new order win, Servotech will install 29 EV charging stations in Nashik. .</p>
<p>NMC <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/nashik-tender-install-20-ev-charging-stations" target="_blank" rel="noopener">floated</a> a tender to install 20 EV charging stations in July 2023. The work included a location survey, supply, commissioning, and construction of the charging stations.</p>
<p>Under the tender, 20 four-wheeler dual gun CCS2 (60 kW) DC plus 100 two/three-wheeler (3.3 kW) AC chargers were to be installed.</p>
<p>Servotech will oversee the installation, supply, and maintenance of EV charging stations.</p>
<p>The company offers an extensive range of AC and DC chargers that are compatible with different EVs and serve multiple applications, such as commercial and domestic.</p>
<p>According to Sarika Bhatia, Director of Servotech Power Systems, the order will help the city meet its growing need for convenient EV charging infrastructure and support the transition towards sustainable transport solutions for interstate and intercity travel.</p>
<p>In February 2024, the company also <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/servotech-contract-deploy-1800-ev-chargers-bpcl" target="_blank" rel="noopener">won</a> an order to install 1,800 DC Fast EV Chargers across India from Bharat Petroleum Corporation (<a href="https://www.bharatpetroleum.in/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">BPCL</a>), a government-owned oil and gas major. The order is valued at ₹1.2 billion (~$14.46 million) and encompasses installing and commissioning two charger variants, 60 kW and 120 kW in the 70:30 ratio.</p>
<p>Recently, Rajasthan Electronics and Instruments, a joint venture between the Government of India and the Government of Rajasthan, <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/reil-invites-bids-to-at-eight-locations-in-delhi" target="_blank" rel="noopener">issued</a> a tender for the selection of a charge point operator to set up EV charging stations across eight New Delhi Municipal Council sites.</p>
<p>Last year, the government informed Parliament that India had <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/8738-public-ev-charging-stations-june-minister" target="_blank" rel="noopener">installed</a> 8,738 public EV  charging stations, as of June 30, 2023, according to the Bureau of Energy Efficiency and the Ministry of Power data.</p>

					</table><p>Nashik Municipal Corporation (<a href="https://nmc.gov.in/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">NMC</a>) has invited bids for the supply, erection, installation, and commissioning of 20 electric vehicle (EV) charging stations at various locations under its jurisdiction.</p>
<p>The successful bidder will also be responsible for the charging station&#8217;s operation and maintenance (O&amp;M) for three years from the contract&#8217;s signing date.</p>
<p>The scope of the work includes location survey, planning, designing, engineering, supply, testing, inspection, packing, transportation, delivery to the project site, unloading, handling and storage, erection, and commissioning of the charging equipment and any other allied work required for successful commissioning.</p>
<p>A total of 20 four-wheeler dual gun CCS2 (60 kW) DC plus 100 two/three-wheeler (3.3 kW) AC chargers are to be installed under the tender.</p>

<p>Bidders must submit ₹500,000 (~$6,096) as an earnest money deposit. Also, the successful bidder must submit an amount equivalent to 1% of the accepted contract value as a security deposit.</p>
<p>The project&#8217;s estimated cost is ₹100 million (~$1.22 million).</p>
<p>The successful bidder should ensure that charging stations should be commissioned within four months from the date of the issuance of the letter of award.</p>
<p>To be eligible, bidders should have completed at least three similar works, each costing not less than 40% of the estimated contract cost, or two similar works, each costing not less than 50% of the estimated project cost, or one similar work costing at least 80% of the estimated contract cost in any one of the last two financial years.</p>
<p>Also, they should have experience in installing and commissioning at least ten fast or moderate AC/DC chargers, which should have been operational for at least six months from the date of the commissioning.</p>
<p>The bidder should have a minimum net worth of ₹30 million (~$365,787) based on the unconsolidated audited annual accounts of the company for the last two financial years.</p>
<p>Further, the net worth of bidders during the last financial year should be positive, and the profitability during the last two financial years should also be positive.</p>
<p>They should have a minimum working capital of ₹30 million (~$365,787) as of the last audited financial year.</p>
<p>According to tender documents, the charging equipment should be type tested as per AIS 138 at an Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) or National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL)-accredited laboratory or any International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC)-accredited laboratories in the world.</p>
<p>In November last year, Pune Municipal Corporation <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/pmc-bid-electric-vehicle-charging-stations" target="_blank" rel="noopener">invited</a> proposals for the commissioning, operation, and maintenance of EV charging stations for the public at designated locations in Pune.</p>
<p>Earlier, Brihan-Mumbai Electric Supply and Transport Undertaking (BEST) had <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/best-bids-installation-ev-charging-stations-mumbai" target="_blank" rel="noopener">invited</a> bids to select an operator to install and operate EV charging stations by sharing the infrastructure of BEST.</p>

Nashik Municipal Corporation Floats Tender to Install 20 EV Charging Stations

<p>Ujaas Energy will develop a 15 MW (AC) ground-mounted solar project for Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) at the HAL Ojhar Township premises in Nashik, Maharashtra.</p>
<p>The company stated, “it received an order from HAL for design, engineering, manufacturing, procurement, supply, construction, erection, testing and commissioning of a 15 MW (AC) solar power project,” in a <a href="http://corporates.bseindia.com/xml-data/corpfiling/AttachLive/45e5d6a8-4ecc-47e0-8320-456c66c7c246.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE)</a> filing.</p>
<p>Mercom previously <a href="https://mercomindia.com/hindustan-aeronautics-limited-tenders-15-mw-ac-solar-maharashtra/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">reported</a> that, HAL tendered this 15 MW solar project in December 2016.</p>
