The project represents a total capital investment of $6.1 billion, with Masdar contributing $1 billion in equity. It is being developed jointly by Masdar and Emirates Water and Electricity Company.
Velto Renewables, an independent renewable energy producer backed by La Caisse (formerly CDPQ), has <a href="https://mercomcapital.com/velto-renewables-refinances-76-solar-projects-914-million-deal/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">completed</a> a refinancing transaction of more than €800 million (~$914 million) for a portfolio of 76 operational solar photovoltaic projects in Spain with a combined installed capacity of 218 MWp. The refinancing covers assets operating under Spain’s Regulated Renewable Energy, Cogeneration and Waste framework.
Decarbonization solutions company ReNew and Japan’s Mitsui have <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/renew-mitsui-ink-730-million-refinancing-for-320-mw-rtc-project/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">inked</a> a $730 million (~₹69.53 billion) multi-currency refinancing for its 320 MW round-the-clock renewable energy project in Tamil Nadu. Societe Generale Corporate and Investment Banking acted as structuring bank, original mandated lead arranger and bookrunner, and green loan coordinator.
Opdenergy, a global independent power producer, has <a href="https://mercomcapital.com/opdenergy-secures-227-million-financing-renewable-energy-portfolio/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">secured</a> $227 million in financing for its 371 MW operational renewable energy portfolio in Chile. The financing was provided by Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation, BNP Paribas, and Instituto de Crédito Oficial. The transaction covers a portfolio including the 104 MW Sol de Los Andes solar project and the 90 MW/513 MWh Sol de Los Andes battery energy storage project. It also includes the 50 MW La Estrella wind farm and a 17 MW portfolio of solar projects.
Renewable energy solutions provider Serentica Renewables has <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/serentica-raises-345-million-debt-financing-from-adb-led-consortium/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">secured</a> a $345.1 million loan agreement to develop and refinance a 395.4 MW solar-wind hybrid power project in Koppal, Karnataka. The project comprises 191.4 MW of ground-mounted solar capacity and 204 MW of wind power capacity. It is being developed under a group captive model.
Renewable energy project developer Chint Solar Europe has <a href="https://mercomcapital.com/chint-solar-sells-112-mw-german-battery-storage-portfolio-to-flower/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">signed</a> an agreement to sell seven ready-to-build battery energy storage projects totaling 112 MW/332.5 MWh in Germany to Swedish energy technology company Flower Infrastructure Technologies. The individual projects will range in capacity from 6 MW to 48 MW and provide storage durations of three to four hours. The projects will be located across seven municipalities in Thuringia, Lower Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt, Saxony, and Hesse.

					</table><a href="https://veltorenewables.com/en/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Velto Renewables</a>, an independent renewable energy producer backed by La Caisse (formerly CDPQ), has completed a refinancing transaction of more than €800 million (~$914 million) for a portfolio of 76 operational solar photovoltaic projects in Spain with a combined installed capacity of 218 MWp.
The refinancing covers assets operating under Spain&#8217;s Regulated Renewable Energy, Cogeneration and Waste (RECORE) framework.
Velto Renewables said the new financing structure is intended to strengthen its long-term capital structure, increase financial flexibility, support continued optimization of the portfolio&#8217;s operational performance, and simplify the group&#8217;s corporate structure.
The refinancing was arranged with the participation of Crédit Agricole Corporate and Investment Bank, Export Development Canada, BBVA, BNP Paribas, Abanca, ING, Deutsche Bank, and CaixaBank.
Lucas de Haro, CEO of Velto Renewables, stated: “This refinancing is structured as part of our 2026-2030 strategy: “Operational Excellence as the foundation for Growth”. The relevant portfolio was acquired in 2020; this transaction rationalizes its debt structure as Velto continues to optimize long-term operations.”
Several advisory firms supported the transaction. Kenta Capital served as financial and hedging coordinator. Garrigues acted as legal counsel to the lenders. Gómez-Acebo &amp; Pombo, Watson Farley &amp; Williams, and Ramón y Cajal advised Velto Renewables as legal counsel. Enertis served as technical advisor, while Howden acted as insurance advisor.
The company said the refinancing forms part of its financial strategy to support future growth and improve the management of one of its core operating portfolios. Velto Renewables said the transaction also strengthens the financial position of the solar assets acquired in 2020 and supports its plans to pursue additional investment opportunities in the European renewable energy sector.
In September 2025, the company <a href="https://mercomcapital.com/velto-renewables-to-acquire-260-mw-solar-projects-in-spain/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">announced</a> it would acquire a portfolio of regulated solar projects totaling 163 MW from Helia II FCR, an investment vehicle for renewable assets launched by Bankinter Investment SGEIC and Plenium Partners. The combined portfolio comprised 53 operational projects across multiple regions of Spain, with a total capacity of 260 MW. The enterprise value of the transaction is estimated at €1.1 billion (~$1.3 billion).

Velto Renewables Refinances 76 Solar Projects with $914 Million Deal

Flatiron Energy, a developer of utility-scale energy storage projects, <a href="https://mercomcapital.com/flatiron-energy-secures-540-million-for-800-mwh-storage-project/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">secured</a> approximately $540 million in financing from a group of financial institutions to support the construction and operation of the Taft Project. Taft is a 200 MW/800 MWh battery energy storage project located in Uxbridge, Massachusetts. The project is expected to begin commercial operation in late 2026.
GridStor, a developer and operator of utility-scale battery energy storage projects, <a href="https://mercomcapital.com/gridstor-acquires-100-mw-400-mwh-white-tank-bess/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">announced</a> the acquisition of the 100 MW/400 MWh White Tank battery storage project in Arizona from Strata Clean Energy, a vertically integrated solar and storage project developer. The project is in in the state’s Maricopa County and is expected to reach commercial operation in the first half of 2027.
Enfinity Global <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/enfinity-global-secures-%E2%82%B95-billion-debt-financing-from-india-infradebt" target="_blank" rel="noopener">secured</a> ₹5.2 billion (~$59 million) in debt financing from India Infradebt for its 200 MW solar projects across India. Enfinity has a global portfolio of 36 GW of renewable energy and storage projects, including operational projects, under construction, and development assets. It also has an additional 37 GW under negotiation across the U.S.
Nexamp, a developer of solar and battery storage projects, <a href="https://mercomcapital.com/nexamp-secures-350-million-from-macquarie-asset-management/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">secured</a> $350 million in financing from Macquarie Asset Management to support the construction of its utility-scale solar and battery storage projects. The financing from Macquarie will be used to advance a significant portion of the company’s 6 GW project pipeline, which has been under development since Nexamp’s expansion into the utility-scale segment in 2021.
Green Genius, a renewable energy company, <a href="https://mercomcapital.com/green-genius-secures-30-million/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">closed</a> €25.3 million (~$29.9 million) in financing for the construction and development of a 196 MWh battery energy storage project in Antkalniškiai village, Jurbarkas district, Lithuania. Swedbank provided the funding for the battery storage system to EKO Srautas, a company owned by Green Genius. The project is expected to reach commercial operation by the end of the third quarter of 2026.

In addition to the 163 MW portfolio, Plenium Partners has added its own solar portfolio of 97 MW to the transaction with Velto.
The combined portfolio comprises 53 operational projects across multiple regions of Spain, with a total capacity of 260 MW. The enterprise value of the transaction is estimated at €1.1 billion (~$1.3 billion).
Once operational, the projects are expected to generate over 360 GWh of clean energy annually.
The transaction is subject to the receipt of necessary regulatory approvals and the fulfillment of customary closing conditions.

In another recent transaction, Velto Renewables announced the <a href="https://veltorenewables.com/en/velto-renewables-completes-acquisition-and-begins-operation-of-la-gineste-solar-farm-in-aude/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">completion</a> of its acquisition of a 9 MWp La Gineste solar project from Q ENERGY, located in La Tourette-Cabardès (Aude), France. The project, which began operations, comprises more than 15,000 photovoltaic modules.
In March, Velto Renewables also <a href="https://cms.mercomindia.com/velto-renewables-to-acquire-renewable-energy-projects-from-q-energy/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">announced</a> a partnership with Q Energy Solutions, a European renewable energy company under which the former will acquire a portfolio of renewable energy projects from Q ENERGY across multiple European countries over the coming years.
According to Mercom&#8217;s 1H and Q2 2025 Solar Funding and M&amp;A <a href="https://cms.mercomindia.com/product/1h-and-q2-2025-solar-funding-and-ma-report/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">report</a>, approximately 19.9 GW of solar projects were acquired in the first half of 2025, compared to 18.5 GW in the first half of 2024.

Velto Renewables to Acquire 260 MW Solar Projects in Spain

Alight, an independent solar power producer, has <a href="https://mercomcapital.com/alight-secures-48-million-financing-for-eurajoki-solar-project/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">secured</a> €46 million (~$48.07 million) of senior debt for its 100 MWp solar project in Eurajoki in Finland. The company signed the financing agreement with the banks ABN AMRO and SEB. The facility agreement for the Eurajoki solar project will be replicated to finance three additional projects in the company’s pipeline in Finland totaling over 200 MWp and amounting to more than €110 million (~$114.95 million) in debt financing.

European Energy, a renewable energy project developer, <a href="https://mercomcapital.com/european-energy-secures-73-million-financing-for-148-mw-solar-project/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">secured</a> €68 million (~$72.79 million) in financing to develop a 148 MW solar project in the Ventspils municipality, Latvia. NIB, Luminor Bank, and NORD/LB have agreed to co-finance the project. Stelo Orienta SIA, a subsidiary of European Energy, is developing the project.
New York-based global alternative asset manager Brookfield Asset Management <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/brookfield-sells-1-6-gw-renewables-portfolio-in-india-to-gentari" target="_blank" rel="noopener">announced</a> the sale of its 1.6 GW portfolio of solar and wind assets in India to Gentari Renewables India in two phases. The first phase, comprising the sale of 1 GW of operating assets, is already complete. It is Brookfield’s first full-cycle portfolio monetization for its renewable power and transition business in India.

<a href="https://veltorenewables.com/en/home/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Velto Renewables</a>, a renewable power producer backed by investment group CDPQ, has announced a partnership with Q Energy Solutions, a European renewable energy company. Under this agreement, Velto Renewables will acquire a portfolio of renewable energy projects from Q ENERGY across multiple European countries over the coming years.
As the first transaction under this partnership, Velto Renewables has acquired a portfolio of solar and wind projects in France totaling approximately 130 MW.
The portfolio includes five projects, all currently under construction by Q ENERGY in France. It consists of two solar projects, two wind projects, and a floating solar project.
These five projects are expected to reach commercial operation between spring 2025 and early 2026. Once operational, the portfolio will produce renewable-based energy over 210,000 MWh annually.
In the coming weeks, both companies expect to transact additional portfolios with a combined capacity of 400 MW located in Spain and Portugal.

According to Mercom&#8217;s Annual and Q4 2024 Solar Funding and M&amp;A <a href="https://mercomcapital.com/product/annual-and-q4-2024-solar-funding-and-ma-report/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">report</a>, 217 large-scale solar project acquisitions totaling 37.7 GW were transacted in 2024, compared to 231 transactions totaling 45.4 GW in 2023.
This month, European Energy, a renewable energy project developer, <a href="https://mercomcapital.com/european-energy-sells-470-mw-solar-and-wind-projects-in-lithuania/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">announced</a> that it has entered into an agreement with Energix Group to sell 470 MW of solar and wind capacity in Lithuania.
