Cairn Oil & Gas, a Vedanta Group company, has signed a power delivery agreement (PDA) with renewable energy solutions provider Serentica Renewables to source 25 MW of wind-solar energy to support the operations of Cairn’s Mangala onshore oil production facility in Barmer, Rajasthan.

Serentica has commenced supplying renewable energy from its hybrid project in Gadag, Karnataka, catering to 20% of the power demand for the oil production asset. With a capacity utilization factor of 70%, the Gadag project will supply 153 million units of renewable energy to Cairn annually.

The hybrid power will also help Cairn meet its renewable purchase obligations.

According to its Sustainability Report FY 2024-25, Cairn Oil & Gas installed 2 MW of rooftop solar and solar lighting systems across its operational assets. The company plans to source 70 MW of renewable energy by 2030. Cairn consumed 4,920 gigajoules (GJ) of solar and 2.12 GJ of wind energy in the financial year (FY) 2025.

The company has set a target to reach net zero by 2050.

This February, Vedanta Power invited expressions of interest from Indian and global engineering, procurement, and construction contractors and renewable energy solutions providers to set up 25-40 MW solar projects at its 1,200 MW thermal power plant in Sakti district, Chhattisgarh.

Vedanta plans to meet 70% of its group company Hindustan Zinc’s power requirements through renewables by FY 2026. Hindustan Zinc also partnered with Serentica Renewables to develop 530 MW of solar and wind projects, supported by battery storage to deliver 450 MW of round-the-clock power. The project will ensure a 315 MW continuous supply of clean power for the company.

In 2023, Bharat Aluminium Company, a subsidiary of Vedanta, entered into a PDA with a special purpose vehicle of Serentica Renewables to source 105 MW of hybrid power for its aluminum operations in Chhattisgarh.
