Aggressive bidding is rapidly becoming the defining feature of India’s energy storage tender landscape, raising concerns among stakeholders. As competition intensifies and tender volumes rise, discovered tariffs for battery energy storage systems (BESS) have converged sharply, raising a critical question for the sector: are today’s prices truly reflective of bankable projects, or are they setting the stage for long-term instability?

KP Energy, Ganeko Three Energy (an SPV of Zelestra), Waaree Forever Energies (a subsidiary of Waaree Energies), Opera Energy, Purvah Green Power, Vena Energy Aura (a subsidiary of Vena Energy), and Refex Holding won Solar Energy Corporation of India’s (SECI) auction to develop 1.2 GW of interstate transmission system-connected wind power projects across India under Tranche XIX.

The Punjab State Electricity Regulatory Commission issued the draft Punjab State Electricity Regulatory Commission (Grid Interactive Rooftop Solar Photo Voltaic Systems) (Third Amendment) Regulations, 2026, seeking to significantly liberalize the state’s rooftop solar framework. The draft proposes amendments to the 2021 Rooftop Solar Regulations and their first and second amendments, with changes covering metering arrangements, eligibility norms, capacity limits, and settlement mechanisms.

The Central Electricity Authority (CEA) began assessing the manufacturing capacity of grid-forming inverters (GFM) in India, in light of the increasing share of solar and wind energy in the country’s power mix. In a letter to GFM manufacturers, the CEA said GFM is necessary to ensure a stable, reliable electricity grid. “In this context, it is important to get an estimate of the manufacturing capacity of Grid Forming Inverters in India for future planning as well as other policy, regulatory, and technical interventions.”

Atlanta Electricals secured multiple power transformer supply contracts, valued at ₹2.88 billion (~$31.56 million), from Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation (KPTCL) and Datta Power Infra, an independent power producer executing projects for NTPC. The contracts are scheduled to be executed over the next 12 months. Out of the total order value, two orders worth ₹1.46 billion (~$16 million) have been received from KPTCL.

The Ladakh Power Development Department invited bids to set up rooftop solar systems of 1–3 kW for up to 7,000 residential consumers under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, through the utility-led aggregation–renewable service company mode. The scope of work covers the design, procurement, installation, and commissioning of the projects. It also includes the operation and maintenance of the rooftop systems for five years.

Ola Electric began deliveries of its Ola Shakti home BESS powered by 4680 Bharat cells, marking the company’s entry into the residential energy backup segment beyond electric scooters. Deliveries of the 6 kW/9.1 kWh variant have already started in Bengaluru after receiving Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) certification. The company announced that it has also secured the BIS certification for the 3kW/5.2kWh configuration of Ola Shakti.

Indian Energy Exchange recorded its highest-ever monthly electricity traded volume of 13,050 MU in January 2026, registering a 19.6% year-over-year (YoY) growth. This performance was supported by robust participation across market segments and improved supply liquidity. During the month, a total of 239,100 Renewable Energy Certificates were traded on the exchange. India’s power consumption stood at 142.74 billion units in January 2026, reflecting a 3.8% increase YoY, according to government data.

Haryana-based solar energy solutions company Loom Solar announced the launch of its scalable 125 kW/261 kWh CAML BESS, which can be scaled up to 1 MWh, designed to replace diesel generators in the commercial and industrial segment. Unlike conventional diesel generator-based systems with switch-over downtimes ranging from 30 seconds to 3 minutes, Loom Solar’s BESS ensures instantaneous power availability, eliminating operational disruptions in critical industrial processes.

Europe’s power system entered a phase dominated by renewables, fundamentally changing price formation, risk allocation, and revenue stability. In 2025, renewables accounted for 47.8% of total EU electricity generation, with solar output exceeding 340 TWh, representing 12.6% of the power mix, according to Pexapark’s Renewables Market Outlook 2026. Solar and wind together contributed around 30% of total generation, overtaking fossil fuels and nuclear as the single largest technology block.

The corporate renewable power purchase agreement (PPA) market in the U.S. and Europe is diverging on price trends but converging on structure. According to LevelTen Energy’s Q4 2025 PPA Price Index, Europe continues to see falling prices, while the U.S. is experiencing sustained price increases, reflecting very different power-market fundamentals and policy risks.
