The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) prepared a draft one-time relief package for renewable energy projects that have received Letters of Award but have yet to sign power purchase agreements. The package has been sent to the Ministry of Power for consideration.

The Andhra Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission directed power distribution companies (DISCOMs) in the state to provide 24×7 electricity supply to all consumer categories, except agricultural consumers. For agricultural consumers, DISCOMs must supply power for the number of hours and at the times specified by the Andhra Pradesh government from time to time.

The Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Prasaran Nigam issued draft guidelines mandating that battery storage systems installed with renewable energy captive and open access projects be charged during solar peak hours using power from their own generation. The draft details procedures for charging and discharging battery storage systems installed alongside wind-solar and solar projects.

The Andhra Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission proposed a new framework for procurement, capital investment, cost control, standardization, benchmarking, inventory management, and prudence review for transmission and distribution licensees. The draft regulations titled ‘Andhra Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission (Procurement, Investment and Cost Control) Regulations, 2026’ will apply to transmission projects exceeding ₹200 million (~$2.1 million) and distribution projects exceeding ₹50 million (~$524,500).

The Rajasthan Electricity Regulatory Commission approved the true-up of Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Prasaran Nigam’s transmission business for the financial year 2024-25 and determined the transmission tariff of ₹37.8 billion (~$394.99 million) for FY 2026-27. The approved transmission tariff is ₹157.87 (~$1.66)/kW/month for medium-term and long-term open access, ₹5.19 (~$0.054)/kW/day for short-term open access, and ₹0.33 (~$0.0034)/kWh for use of the state transmission system in interstate short-term open access bilateral and power exchange transactions.

NBCC (India) invited bids to provide architectural and engineering consultancy services for 15 MW of rooftop solar projects at various locations of Bokaro Steel Plant in Jharkhand. The last date to submit bids is June 3, 2026. Bids will be opened on the same day. The scope of work includes planning and designing the project; preparing architectural concepts and service drawings; preparing preliminary cost estimates; and preparing tender documents with technical specifications, bills of quantities, general terms, and special conditions.

The Gujarat Industries Power Company invited bids to design, engineer, supply, erect, test, and develop a 20 MW/120 MWh battery energy storage system at its 165 MW gas power plant complex in Vadodara. The last date to submit bids online is June 25, 2026. The scope includes associated electrical, mechanical, and civil systems, as well as the revitalization or modification of existing switchyard infrastructure, high-tension transformers, communication systems, and metering systems.

India is in the grip of a sweltering summer, but the electricity grid has managed to meet daytime power demand, which is setting new records. Thanks to coal-based thermal generation and renewable energy sources, power outages have not occurred on a large scale. On the afternoon of May 21, 2026, India saw an unprecedented power demand of over 270 GW, which was comfortably met by thermal, solar, and wind energy sources.

Ferroalloy producer Indian Metals and Ferro Alloys (IMFA) announced it will procure 65 MW of renewable energy from EG Urja Strot’s 184 MW wind-solar hybrid project, which includes a 25 MWh battery storage component. IMFA has signed a 29-year power purchase agreement with EG Urja Strot and acquired a 26% equity stake in the company for an aggregate consideration of approximately ₹1.1 billion (~$11.5 million).

Adani Green Energy (AGEL) commissioned a cumulative 3.37 GWh battery energy storage system at Khavda, Gujarat. The battery storage system is designed to support grid reliability, peak-hour supply, and the delivery of round-the-clock renewable power. AGEL said BESS helps address variability in renewable energy generation, which changes with time, climate, season, and location, by storing surplus energy and supplying it during peak demand.

Energy storage solutions provider Amara Raja Energy and Mobility reported consolidated revenue from operations of ₹35.36 billion (~$371.19 million) in the fourth quarter (Q4) of the financial year (FY) 2026, up 15.5% year-over-year (YoY) from ₹30.60 billion (~$321.23 million). Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization stood at ₹3.86 billion (~$40.52 million), up 13.1% YoY from ₹3.41 billion (~$35.80 million).

Jaipur-based solar module manufacturer Insolation Energy posted revenue of ₹7.92 billion (~$83.12 million in Q4 FY 2026, up 99.9% YoY from ₹3.96 billion (~$41.59 million). Robust demand across the utility-scale, commercial and industrial segment, rooftop, and government-led renewable energy projects fueled the revenue growth.

Frontier Power USA, a long-duration energy storage development and investment platform, signed an agreement to acquire a 480 MWh battery storage project portfolio from Bimergen Energy Corporation. The portfolio includes three projects in the Electric Reliability Council of Texas market. Two are Texas 10 projects, which refers to battery storage projects with a capacity of 10 MW or less, and the third is a 100 MW/400 MWh project.
