					</table><p>A consortium comprising <strong>ACWA Power,</strong> <strong>Water and Electricity Holding Company</strong>, and <strong>Saudi Aramco Power Company</strong> <a href="https://www.zawya.com/en/projects/utilities/acwa-powerpifsapco-consortium-seal-82bln-financing-for-15gw-renewables-kyyftvvh" target="_blank" rel="noopener">achieved</a> financial closure of $8.2 billion for seven large-scale renewable energy projects with a cumulative capacity of 15 GW. This capacity comprises 12 GW of solar and 3 GW of wind projects. These projects are expected to be operationalized between the second half of 2027 and the first half of 2028. The Saudi Power Procurement Company will offtake the entire capacity.</p>
<p>The <strong>United Arab Emirates</strong> <a href="https://gulfnews.com/uae/government/uae-allocates-1-billion-to-support-energy-sector-in-yemen-1.500366049#:~:text=ABU%20DHABI%20Following%20the%20directives,%241%20billion%20to%20support%20the" target="_blank" rel="noopener">announced</a> the launch of energy projects worth $1 billion in Yemen to support the rebuilding of its energy sectors. Abu Dhabi firm Global South Utilities will implement the projects. The portfolio of projects would include wind and solar projects, as well as the development of distribution networks in the country.</p>
<p><strong>Türkiye</strong>&#8216;s <strong>Renewable Energy Resource Zone</strong> <a href="https://www.aa.com.tr/en/energy/general/turkiyes-yeka-tender-draws-400-million-in-solar-investment/53132" target="_blank" rel="noopener">announced</a> that its eight solar tenders attracted about $400 million in investment and allocated 650 MW of capacity. Energy and Natural Resources Minister of Türkiye, Alparslan Bayraktar, said that 77 bids were received for the tenders. The Minister added that Türkiye is working on various methods and business models to tap its wind, solar, geothermal, and other renewable energy potential. After the wind tenders scheduled for December by Türkiye are finalized, the country’s awarded capacity is expected to reach nearly 4 GW.</p>
<p><strong>AB Energy</strong>, an <strong>Oman</strong>-based renewable energy technology company, <a href="https://www.zawya.com/en/economy/gcc/pact-for-manufacture-of-mobile-solar-power-plants-in-oman-twy09mw3" target="_blank" rel="noopener">announced</a> a partnership with <strong>China</strong>-based <strong>Wuxi Longmax Technology</strong> to support the development, manufacture, and assembly of a mobile solar power project in the country.</p>
<p><strong>Morocco</strong>’s Minister of Investment, Convergence, and the Evaluation of Public Policies <a href="https://micepp.gov.ma/en/le-ministere/actualites/tan-tan-agreement-signed-gpm-holding-sa-build-moroccos-first-green" target="_blank" rel="noopener">signed</a> an investment agreement with <strong>GPM Holding SA</strong> to establish a green polysilicon production unit in the country’s El Quatia industrial zone. The project will be established with an investment of AED 8 billion (~$2.17 billion).</p>

					</table><p><strong>Bahrain’s Electricity and Water Authority (EWA)</strong> <a href="https://www.bna.bh/en/EWAlaunchesBahrainsfirstsolarpowerplant.aspx?cms=q8FmFJgiscL2fwIzON1%2BDh1uISeLiT2tI0kAhrUq3Dg%3D" target="_blank" rel="noopener">announced</a> the commencement of work on the country’s first solar project. The project has a planned production capacity of 150 MW. It will be developed in partnership with the private sector and is a part of Bahrain’s target of reaching net-zero carbon emissions by 2060. EWA stated that the solar project will be in the country’s southern region, near Bilaj Al Jazayer.  EWA plans to launch a global marketing exercise on August 14 to help advance the project’s development process. The exercise will involve engagement with local and international developers and stakeholders.</p>
<p><strong>Masdar</strong> and the <strong>EDF Group</strong>’s joint venture, <strong>Emerge</strong>, <a href="https://www.msn.com/en-ae/news/other/emerge-emirates-development-bank-to-collaborate-on-developing-financing-solar-projects-in-uae/ar-AA1K5LMn" target="_blank" rel="noopener">signed</a> a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the <strong>Emirates Development Bank (EDB)</strong> to explore collaboration areas for developing and financing distributed solar projects in the <strong>United Arab Emirates</strong>. The MoU will allow Emerge to identify and present renewable energy project financing opportunities. EBD will evaluate these opportunities and explore possible tailored financing solutions.</p>
<p><strong>China</strong>-based <strong>LONGi</strong> <a href="https://www.longi.com/en/news/1mw-rooftop-project-in-jordan/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">delivered</a> its Hi-MO X10 modules to the 1 MW rooftop array, providing electricity to the Izdehar Carton Factory in Muqqar, <strong>Jordan</strong>. The Izdehar Carton Factory is LONGi’s Hi-MO X10 technology’s largest single-site deployment to date. The array comprises over 1,500 panels, spanning 10 donums (approximately one hectare) on the factory’s roof.</p>
<p>The <strong>Egyptian Industrial Investment Group (EIIG)</strong> will <a href="https://www.msn.com/en-gb/money/other/egypt-s-renewables-capacity-to-get-300m-boost/ar-AA1JV5Cf#:~:text=Investment%20in%20the%20project%20will,of%20the%20national%20power%20capacity." target="_blank" rel="noopener">launch</a> a large renewable energy project in collaboration with an international company. Investment in the project is expected to range from $250 million to $300 million. The country’s government aims to attract EGP100 billion (~$2.06 million) from the private sector within the next two years for renewable energy projects.</p>
<p><strong>Saudi Arabia</strong>-based <strong>ACWA Power </strong><a href="https://www.enerdata.net/publications/daily-energy-news/acwa-power-secures-noor-midelt-ii-iii-solarbess-projects-morocco.html#:~:text=Training-,ACWA%20Power%20secures%20Noor%20Midelt%20II,solar%2BBESS%20projects%20(Morocco)&amp;text=ACWA%20Power%20has%20been%20awarded,of%20800%20MW%20in%20Morocco." target="_blank" rel="noopener">secured</a> contracts to develop and operate the Noor Midelt II and Noor Midelt III solar projects in <strong>Morocco</strong>, having a combined 800 MW capacity on a build-own-operate basis. ACWA Power signed the 30-year power purchase agreement with the Moroccan Agency for Sustainable Energy. These projects were originally designed as hybrid solar-concentrated solar power systems of 500 MW with a storage capacity. Currently, each project comprises 400 MW of solar and 230 MW/620 MWh of battery energy storage system capacity.</p>


MENA Weekly Roundup: Bahrain Begins Work on 150 MW Solar Project

<p>The Emirates Water and Electricity Company (EWEC), Abu Dhabi’s state-owned water and electric utility has invited expressions of interest (EoI) for the development of 2 GW of solar power projects at Al Dafra, 50 kilometers from Abu Dhabi.</p>
<p>A special purpose vehicle (SPV) will be incorporated under the laws of United Arab Emirates and a developer or a consortium can own up to 40 percent of the 2 GW independent solar power projects. The remaining equity will be held directly or indirectly by Abu Dhabi Power Corporation (ADPC) and other Abu Dhabi government entities.</p>
<p>The brief scope of work includes the development, financing, construction, operation, maintenance, and ownership of the 2 GW solar power projects.</p>
<p>The SPV will enter into power purchase agreement with EWEC as the procurer. It is a wholly owned subsidiary of ADPC. In the PPA, the procurer will only pay for the net electrical energy supplied by the solar projects.</p>
<p>The last date to submit EoI is March 5, 2019.</p>
<p>EWEC replaced the earlier Abu Dhabi Water and Electricity Company (ADWEC), that was merged within the Ministry of Energy in 2018.</p>
<p><a href="https://mercomindia.com/uae-phase-four-concentrated-solar/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">In March 2018</a>, Mercom reported that the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park was set to become the largest single-site solar park in the world based on the Independent Power Producer model. The solar park is set to generate 1,000 MW by 2020 and 5,000 MW by 2030 and once completed, the project is expected to provide clean energy to over 270,000 residences in Dubai and eliminate 1.4 million tons of carbon emissions per year.</p>
<p><a href="https://mercomindia.com/csp-project-dubai-solar-pv/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">In November 2018,</a> Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (<a href="https://www.dewa.gov.ae/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">DEWA</a>) signed an agreement to add 250 MW of solar photovoltaic at the fourth phase of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park. This increased the total capacity of the solar park from 700 MW to 950 MW.</p>
<p>The agreement was amended to include power purchase agreement with the consortium led by Saudi Arabia’s ACWA Power which also includes China’s Shanghai Electric for the additional 250 MW solar PV to be developed for a tariff of $0.024/kWh</p>
