Algeria plans to commission about 2.44 GW of solar capacity in 2027 under its national renewable energy program, following the commissioning of 760 MW. The additional capacity will come from 17 solar projects being developed under the country’s 3.2 GW solar initiative, aimed at strengthening electricity supply ahead of the summer of 2027. The initiative is a part of Algeria’s broader target of installing 15 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2035. Its initial phase comprises 21 solar projects across 14 provinces, with a combined capacity of 3.2 GW. Once commissioned, these projects are expected to account for about 13% of the country’s total installed power generation capacity.

Norwegian renewable energy developer Scatec partnered with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) to establish an investment platform for solar, wind, and battery energy storage projects in Egypt. The platform, Egypt Renewables Holdings, will be owned 60% by Scatec and 40% by EBRD. The bank will commit up to $221 million, including $170 million in equity investment and the remainder in project-level guarantees. The partnership aims to support the development and financing of renewable energy projects nationwide.

The United Arab Emirates plans to invest up to AED200 billion (~$54.45 billion) in clean energy projects by 2030, according to Suhail bin Mohammed Al Mazrouei, the country’s Minister of Energy and Infrastructure. The proposed investment is intended to expand the country’s clean energy infrastructure to accommodate increasing electricity requirements driven by economic development and population growth. The initiative also aims to encourage greater private-sector participation in the energy industry.

Türkiye-based Enerjisa Enerji Üretim, a joint venture between Sabanci Holding and Germany’s E.ON, plans to invest approximately TRY438 million (~$8.8 million) in a 30 MW solar project integrated with a 40 MWh battery energy storage system in Adana province, in the southern region of the country. The project will be developed in the Tufanbeyli district to supply electricity to mining operations associated with the Tufanbeyli thermal power plant. Construction and installation are expected to be completed within a year. The solar-plus-storage facility will operate independently of the national electricity grid and supply power directly to the industrial operations. The battery storage component will complement solar generation to support the facility’s electricity requirements.
