China’s recent decision to cancel value-added tax (VAT) rebates on exports of solar and related products from April 1, 2026, is likely to increase project costs for India’s solar and battery energy storage system (BESS) developers. The export VAT rebate rate for battery products will be reduced from 9% to 6% from April 1 to December 31, 2026, China’s Ministry of Finance and State Taxation Administration announced in January.

The Appellate Tribunal for Electricity dismissed an appeal filed by the Indian Energy Exchange against the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission’s (CERC) initiation of the process for market coupling in the Day Ahead Market on the power exchanges. It held that the CERC had, on July 23, 2025, held that the directions merely initiated the process for implementing market coupling and did not, by themselves, operationalize it.

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy issued the fifth revised list of the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM List-II) for solar cells, adding 437 MW. The total cumulative solar cell manufacturing capacity rose to 26,477 MW with the latest addition. Fujiyama Power Systems has entered the ALMM List-II with 437 MW.
